Original
Sushi competition 2003 has been organised, as with the first, to allow
a cultural exchange to take place between Britain and Japan, and to
bring about completely new forms of sushi. The competition's Final
Event, at which judging will take place is being held in a Central
London venue in April 2003. In the words of the 2003 competitions
committee head, Mr. Makoto Kakebayashi: "The first Original Sushi
Competition showed that Western ingredients and the imaginations of
the people of the UK could be combined with the Japanese tradition
of sushi to make wonderful new dishes. The 2003 competition is going
to be another genuine cultural exchange and also a lot of fun."
The competition is being sponsored by Kikkoman, the world's biggest
soy sauce producer, Matsuri Restaurant Group, Asahi Beer, one of Japan's
biggest selling beers, ANA (All Nippon Airways), and Kewpie Mayonnaise,
all of which add prestige to the competition, as do the Embassy of
Japan (London), JNTO (Japan National Tourist Organization) and JETRO(Japan
External Trade Organization) who are supporting the competition.
